Tomorrow, December 31st, there will be 4000 runners and change officially registered who will close out the year running the Clásica San Silvestre. Here we tell you everything you need to know so you have an excellent race to close the year with a bang:

Start. The start time for both distances is at 7:30 a.m. The entire group of 4000 or more runners will start at that time, and although the street is wide, the start line arch can be a bit narrow for so many people. It's a good idea to arrive at least an hour early to find good parking, warm up comfortably, and position yourself in the starting corral at ease. When the flag drops, remember that your time is measured with chip timing and counts from the instant you cross the start line, so avoid pushing or rushing to get your fellow runners to go fast because you could cause an accident. Your time doesn't start running until you pass through the start arch.

Course. The San Silvestre is a party for everyone, because there's no better way to close out the year than by running, and it's a race to enjoy. That doesn't mean, however, that it's easy. The 10k route has its tricks, and if you start out in pure celebration mode at a December 31st party pace, you'll probably end up dragging yourself in the last race of the year, because the last 2.4 kilometers are uphill and with the wind against you.

So it's a good idea to pace yourself from the start, especially considering that the race begins with 1.5 kilometers of a really nice downhill. But then comes a long climb of almost 3k along Bulevar de Rohrmoser and then the already-mentioned final climb. For the 5k it's not very different: they start with the same 1.5k downhill, but then you have to overcome 2k of constant, steady climbing along the dreaded Bulevar before finishing mostly downhill to the finish line.

Results and Live Tracking. Even though you haven't run the race yet,you can already see your resultsby clicking HERE. Of course it will show blank, but tomorrow as soon as you cross the finish line, go to the link and you'll be able to see your result immediately. You can also tell family and friends to follow you live on Live Tracking,HERE.

Hydration. There will be hydration stations with water and Gatorade every 2.5 kilometers. The race starts at 7:30 a.m., when the sun has already heated up quite a bit, soit will be important that you arrive well hydrated at the start and from there take advantage of the hydration stations to keep yourself cool and hydrated.

Breakfast. Since the race starts at 7:30, it's easy to make the mistake of eating a lot around 6 a.m., supposedly to arrive with good energy. Well, we remind you that although the breakfast topic is very personal and everyone responds differently based on their habits, the recommendation is to eat something light (toast with jelly, fruit, bars, coffee) one or two hours before the event, or something heavier (rice and beans, pancakes, eggs) but about three hours before the event to avoid heaviness during the race. It's also very important to empty your bowels before leaving home, because later the logistics of evacuation can get complicated...

Photos. The official photos from the event will be published on theGSxG Facebook, the organizing company, no later than 24 hours after the event.

Bag Check: There will be a bag check service starting at 6 a.m. The truck will be "on the corner behind Canal 7 where there's a store of theirs that's called something about the train", according to what the organizers told us hehe. If anyone has a more exact reference for that store please let us know in the comments ;)

Water bottles. Finally, we can't help but mention our classic recommendation to pleasedon't throw water bottles on the street. There's no justification for it whatsoever, you have no right to pollute the street just because you're running. Is it the organizer's responsibility? Well, maybe, but you're the first one responsible.

Happy New Year. While you may have a goal in terms of time and performance, this race especially is meant to be enjoyed. So good attitude, respect toward your fellow runners, and hopefully you have a fantastic year-end finish. Happy New Year!
